2007-2009 Hyundai Santa Fe

Tools Needed
  • 14mm Socket
  • Ratchet
  • Extension for the Ratchet
  • Flat Head Screw Driver
  • Hammer
ROBO JOE WILL BE HELPING ME POINT FOR THIS PROJECT

Be sure you do not do this with a full tank of gas

First disconnect the battery
Second open the fuel cap to let pressure out.

Go to the rear driver side seat
it must be removed first

the front 2 bolts are covered by a plastic cover
which can be removed with a flat head screw driver

once the covers are off you will need to remove these 2
14mm bolts at the front of the seat

There are also to bolts at the back of the seat you must remove
First lay the seat down forward.
Second get your extension with the 14mm and put it between the back of the seat and the trunk area
you will see the two bolts that need removed.

After the 4 bolts are removed holding the seat
in you will see a little flap covering the
fuel pump access which is held down by Velcro

This a cover over the fuel pump

the cover is held down by double sided sticky tape it is easily
removed by using a flat head screw driver and
prying up on it all the way around

Robo Jo is pointing to all the plugs that need disconnected

The red hose is tricky but follow the steps and it will come right off.
It may still have pressure be ready for a little fuel to come out.

After all the plugs and hoses have been disconnected you will be ready to loosen the ring that hold the fuel pump in .

First stick a flat head screw driver in the slot robo Joe is pointing to and use a hammer to turn the ring counter clock wise.

It takes some hard whacks but will come lose

remove the ring and the fuel pump is ready to come out

pull it out carefully it takes some wiggling

There will be a hose connected at the bottom remove it but don't drop it back into the gas tank it will need to be reconnected to the new fuel pump.

To put it back in, repeat the steps backwards

  2. Thanks for your help! Just replaced the drivers side sending unit on my 09 Santa Fe and your instructions/pictures really helped. The only problem I ran into was the wiring bundle limiting my ability to move the cover plate far enough away from the fuel pump to remove the pump completely. If I actually had to completely remove the pump I would have been stuck. Fortunately I was able to get enough of it out of the tank that the sending unit was accessible for removal.

  3. Quick question, on the fray, almost triangular plug did you happen to see where the wires went into the plug itself? My wired got pulled out removing the gas tank..... And I cannot find a schematic anywhere
